The ultimate dream for a lot of people is to travel the world and explore new places. They want to go to places that they have only heard of or seen in pictures. They want to see what’s it like in these exotic locations and try the local food. They want to take countless pictures of the sights and post them on social media for their friends to see. There is one thing that is keeping most from realizing their dream and that’s money. You need a great deal of cash to be a globe-trotter. However, it may not be as much as you think. Plenty of people are able to do so with a modest income and you can, too.
Cheap International Flights
There used to be a time when only the very rich could afford to travel to different parts of the world for leisure. Back then, everything was incredibly expensive and time-consuming. This made it impractical for the common folk. They used to take ships to get to cross oceans which could take weeks or even more. All that changed with the invention of planes but those initially cost a fortune to be on. Now air travel is within the reach of the masses thanks to greater efficiencies in design, operation, logistics, and so forth. You can even get cheap international flights with a quick online search.
Low-cost Accommodations
The other big drain on your wallet will be accommodations. Even if you could rough it out, it isn’t a good idea to be loitering around a foreign country at night. You might be asked about this during your entry as well so you better have something to show them. The trick is to avoid the big hotels and opt for smaller hostels or B&B places. There are lots of alternatives if you try to look for them. These cost just a tiny fraction of what you would typically spend on a hotel room. Some go for just $10 a night or even less. There are dorms for men and for women. You could couch surf or rent a room of a family.
Alternative Destinations
You should also think about where you would travel next. Some places are more expensive than others. Paris, Rome, New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo are quite nice but you should also consider roads that are less traveled. Perhaps you might be interested in Southeast Asia where a lot of the young backpackers go. There are plenty of tropical beaches, Buddhist temples, ancient ruins, and other vistas for you to explore. The food is varied and can be amazing.
