Store Wigs on a Mannequin Head
Events only last for a few hours. You often have to wait for many days or weeks to go to another one. Make sure that your highly stylized wig remains pristine in the meantime so that you don’t need to do the styling all over again. You’ll just have to place it on your head and move out. Wigs can easily change their shape if crushed between objects so make sure to keep yours isolated. Put it on a mannequin head or a similar item. Protect it from dust as well.
Keep the Wigs Away from Heat
Most synthetic wigs will get damaged upon exposure to heat. Don’t use heat-based stylish tools for these or you risk melting them. Even those that don’t melt can eventually get frizz if you use heat excessively. Keep these tools for natural hair. The exception is if the manufacturer specifically states that your synthetic wigs are actually resistant to heat because of the use of a different material or manufacturing process. Wash Only with Gentle Shampoo
Synthetic wigs don’t need as much washing as natural hair. You can leave them alone for a while without worries about foul odor or other issues. If you are going to wash them, then try to stay away from harsh products. Go with a gentle shampoo to prevent any adverse effects. Better yet, you might want to find a product that is specifically meant for cleaning synthetic wigs.
Wait to Dry Before Brushing
Don’t rush when brushing the wigs. Wait until they dry before you try to untangle the strands. If you brush a wet wig, then you may damage the fibers such that they won’t look as great as they did before. This will shorten their service life, forcing you to buy another one too soon.
