Patients who have mobility issues do not need to exert too much effort in order to get help from the nurses. They can simply use the pillow speaker to inform the front desk about their needs. They can just talk into the pillow speaker for instructions. This is great for the elderly and those dealing with paralysis. They may also contain buttons to control the TV, lights, and other things around the room. This setup keeps patients comfortable with minimum exertion.
Wall Station
The wall station is the hub of communication between patients and nurses. These are installed near the bed for ease of access. They have a receptacle that is specifically for the pillow speaker. These may contain sensors that are connected to the ventilators, IV pumps, and other equipment. If there is something wrong with these machines, then an alarm can be triggered so that nurses can check right away even if the patient did not call them. It is one way of guaranteeing fast response to emergency situations.
Desk Console
This part of the system is directly controlled by the secretary or the nurse in-charge. The console is connected to the wall stations in different rooms so it allows the nurses to answer calls directly. They can then arrange for whatever the patients need. They can also proactively check on patients by calling their rooms. For example, they might receive alarms from the system and try to contact the occupant before deploying personnel.
Code Blue Button
In emergency situations, trying to make a call may not be possible. Patients in these facilities tend to be feeble and immobile, after all. Calls can be complicated and slow. When confronted with a major difficulty, they should be able to get the attention of the nurses without delay. This is what the code blue button is for. These are located on the wall stations and are meant to be pressed when rapid assistance is necessary.
Modern nurse call systems can have many other features but these are the essentials that get the job done.
